Flares (Individual)FLARESA distress flare is needed for two distinct purposes, to RAISE THE ALARM and to PINPOINT THE POSITION of the vessel in distress. The first calls for a long range signal, the second for a signal which burns at the exact location of the emergency. Close inshore a hand flare will do both tasks. Further offshore separate flares are necessary.
